Drag. Shift. Drop.
Converting a file shouldn't mean opening an app, hunting for an export menu, or uploading it to a sketchy website. Start dragging any file in Explorer, Finder or your Linux file manager, press Shift, and a wheel opens under your cursor. Drop the file on a format and the converted copy lands right next to the original.
01 / How it works
Start dragging
Pick up one or more files in Explorer, Finder or your file manager, like you're about to move them.
Press Shift
Still holding the mouse, tap Shift. The wheel opens under your cursor. Tap it again to switch to Tools.
Drop on a slice
The new file is saved beside the original. Drop in the centre to cancel; nothing is moved or overwritten.

05 / Installing
| Windows | Run ShiftDrop-Setup.exe. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC” (ShiftDrop is a new, independent app without a paid code-signing certificate), click More info → Run anyway. ShiftDrop lives in the system tray near the clock. Uninstall from Settings → Apps. |
| macOS | Open the .dmg and drag ShiftDrop into Applications. The first time you open it, macOS says it can't verify the developer: open System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll down and click Open Anyway. ShiftDrop lives in the menu bar. To remove it, turn off Open at login in its menu, then drag it to the Bin. |
| Linux | Make the AppImage executable (chmod +x ShiftDrop-*.AppImage, or Properties → Allow executing) and double-click it. Its tray menu can add it to your applications menu and start it at login. On X11 the Shift gesture works as usual. Wayland doesn't let apps watch the mouse, so drag files onto the small ShiftDrop dock at the right edge of the screen instead. |
| Privacy | Everything happens on your computer. Files are never uploaded anywhere, and ShiftDrop doesn't connect to the internet. |
